LESSON 2- THE FOUR ‘SEAL’ JUDGMENTS

INTRODUCTION:  Immediately after rapture on God’s prophetic calendar will be the opening of the seven seals that contain the seven final judgments of God that will come upon the earth. This morning we will study the first four disasters. Read Revelation 6:1-8.

I. THE PURPOSE OF THE TRIBULATION PERIOD.  Why the Tribulation Period?

  1. To punish the world for it’s evil.  (Rev. 6:16-17).  Isa. 26:21 says, “For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity.” Isa. 63:3, 6 describes very vividly the anger and fury of God that will be poured out on the earth at this time to punish evil after the rapture. Many scriptures attest to this future purpose of God.

  2. To purge Israel of rebellion and turn them to Christ.  Romans 11:26 says, “And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob.” Another prophecy says in Ezekiel 20:38, “…I will purge out from among you the rebels…”  It’s also called, “The Time of Jacob’s Trouble.” (Jer. 30:7).

  3. To get one last harvest of souls before ending the world.  Many people will turn  to Christ during the Tribulation Period.

  4. To let the world see what the world would be like without God.

I. THE FIRST SEAL DESCRIBES A ‘WHITE HORSE’ AND RIDER. (Rev. 6:1-2).

A white horse and rider go out over the hole earth “conquering and to conquer.”  That rider is called in scripture, the Anti-Christ. He is also called the beast, because of his administration will be a reign of terror killing millions of innocent people. He is pictured riding a horse.  A horse indicates his rapid conquest. Dan. 11:21 says that he will conquer by “flatteries.”  Flattery is insincere praise.  He will be a “people pleaser.”

  1. He will make peace treaties world-wide.  Rev. 6:2 says he carries a “bow” without arrows—this indicates he will conquer not by force or by violence, but by peace. (See Daniel 8:25).

  2. He will be an impersonator of Jesus—a false Christ.  That’s why he’s called the “Anti-Christ.”  I John 2:18 says, “Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come.  Rev. 13:8 says, “And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life ...”

  3. He will possess great personal charisma and charm.  Rev. 13:4 says, “…and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast?”  vs. 5 says, “And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things.” Daniel 11:36 says, “He shall speak marvelous things.”

  4. He will be given authority over all nations and people.  Rev. 6:2 says that He is given a crown. A crown indicates authority and power.  All nations “give” their power. Read Rev. 17:12-13;  His power grows throughout the entire world.  Rev. 13:7 says, “…and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.”  It says his power is over “all.”

  5. He will be magnified by the power of Satan. (Rev. 13:4-5).  Notice, “the dragon” gives him his power.  Rev. 12:9, says, “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world…”

  6. His reign of worst terror will last for 3½ years.  Rev. 13:5 says, “…and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.” For 3½ years he will terrorize nations unchallenged in full power. The first 3½ years will be a peaceful rise to power.

III. THE SECOND SEAL DESCRIBES A ‘RED HORSE.’  (Rev. 6:3-4).

The red horse represents “war.”  Vs. 4 says, “…there was given unto him a great sword.”  This rider will take peace from the earth, “…that they should kill one another.”  One big war will be when Russia invades Israel, described in Ezek. 38-39.  First, the Bible foretold the return of Israel as a nation in Ezek. 36:24.

  1. The identity of the invaders. (Ezek. 38:1-2, 14-16). Who is Gog? Notice vs. 15, “Out of the north parts…”  That’s Russia—“Gog,” (vs. 2). Russia has always been an aggressor.  This will be it.  (Gog is also named in Rev. 20:8 as one of the aggressor nations when Christ returns). In the book, “Layman’s Guide to Understanding Daniel,” by N.W. Smith says, “During World War II, wooden pencils manufactured in Russia bore the inscription, ‘Made in the Land of Gog.’ ” (Pg. 357).

  2. The time of the invasion.  (Ezek. 38:16).  Notice, “It shall be in the latter days.” Ezek. 39:9 provides more evidence, “Israel shall go forth…and burn the weapons…seven years.” This time span corresponds to the 7 years of the Tribulation.  Ez. 39:9 tells us it will take 7 years to clean up from the battle.  Therefore, the war starts at the very beginning of the Tribulation.

  3. The reason for the invasion.  (Ezek. 38:10-12). Vs. 12 says that Russia will invade Israel “to take a spoil” Israel is coveted.

  4. The outcome of the invasion. (Ezek. 39:2-5). God will defeat Russia, and will bring them again to the battle of Armageddon.

IV. THE THIRD SEAL DESCRIBES A ‘BLACK HORSE.’  (Rev. 6:5-6).

Here is a man with a balance in his hand.  A balance represents buying and selling.  Food was weighed and priced by a balance.  The black horse is “famine”—due to economic collapse.  A penny was a full day’s wage.  A measure of wheat for a penny, was a handful of wheat for an entire day’s wages.

  1. The Anti-Christ will set up his economic program known as the “mark of the beast.”  Rev. 13:16-18 describes the mark of the beast.  What is the “mark” of this beast?  Vs. 16 says it is a number—the number 666.

  2. The importance of the mark is emphasized by mentioning it 6 more times.  It is mentioned in Rev. 14:9, 11; 15:2; 16:2; 19:20; 20:4.

  3. Christians will not be allowed to take this mark on their hand.  (Rev. 14:9-10).  A curse is on the mark.

V. THE FOURTH SEAL DESCRIBES A ‘PALE HORSE.’  (Rev. 6:7-8).

This horse represents “death.” 1/4 of earth means that 2 billion will die early after the rapture--because of war, invasions, riots, killing for food, suicides, heart failures for fear.

CONCLUSION:  Again it’s important to recall that not one Christian alive right now will go through the Tribulation.
